Shippensburg's big first half too much for Marauders
10/21/2017 3:26:00 PM | Football
Zapoticky completed 15 of 21 passes with five touchdowns, hitting Winston Eubanks twice, while Collin McDermott and Cole Chiappialle combined for 173 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Raiders out-gained Millersville 495-213 and totaled 258 on the ground. The onslaught was overwhelming in the first half as the Raiders built a 41-0 lead by the break, piling up 292 yards of offense while limiting Millersville to 71.
Millersville quarterback Tony Staffieri, who had not thrown an interception since the first half of week one, was picked off twice by Kevin Taylor II. One of those picks and a strip sack by John Lister came as part of a second quarter in which Shippensburg scored 27 points. Shippensburg scored touchdowns on all six of its first half possessions.
Millersville's first score came on its first drive of the second half. After Shippensburg turned it over on downs at the Millesville 49, Staffieri found Tyrone Gibson 24 yards, and one play later, Gibson scampered in from 24-yards out, giving him a rushing touchdown in three consecutive games. Stephen Flanagan spelled Staffieri at quarterback in the fourth quarter and led a seven-play, 65-yard drive that culminated with Flanagan's second rushing touchdown of the season.
Kevin Wiggins caught four passes but was limited to a season-low 19 yards.
For the second time in his career MIllersville linebacker Sean Dugan recorded 20 tackles. Dugan was the PSAC leader in stops entering the week and boosted his season total to 95 through eight games, coming within one of his personal best of 21, which was tallied in week two against Seton Hill. Dugan also made two tackles for loss, adding to his team-leading total of 7 1/2.
Millersville's final three games of the season are all at home. The homestand begins with Cheyney on Oct. 28.
