Game Overview
- The Marauders are coming off two impressive victories, over No. 4 Kutztown and No. 10 West Chester. After a 100-minute, thrilling win over the Golden Bears, Millersville downed another "golden" team, beating the West Chester Golden Rams 3-1 at home on Tuesday. Margaret Thorwart led the way for Millersville, scoring two goals in the victory, Taylor Parker added the third goal later. Goalkeeper Sam Rumler was tested often in the game against West Chester, but was not affected by the pressure, making eight saves including many that were difficult plays to make.
- Rumler is second in the country in GAA, allowing an average of 0.47 goals per game. In other words, she has played 450 minutes and only let up three goals all season. "She is efficient in her approach," said head coach Shelly Behrens. "She doesn't get bogged down with extrinsic matters and she stays on task quite well."
- Rumler normally doesn't face 16 shots a game, as she did against West Chester. The nine shots on goal West Chester had was a season-high for opponents against Millersville, the previous mark was five, set by Stonehill.
- Millersville is known for an impeccable defense that swarms the ball, leading to domination in time of possession. The offense is a force to be reckoned with as well, already racking up 17 goals in six games in 2016. Thorwart has been one of the players contributing towards that often; she already has three goals and two assists this year. Her ppg average of 1.33 is tied for 15th in the NCAA, and Kathleen Bishop and Aliza Mizak join her amongst the top 25 in ppg among division two players.
- After Millersville started 17-1-1 against IUP, they quickly reversed trends and suffered a 2-14 spell against the Crimson Hawks. As of it late, however, Millersville has been able to rattle off three wins in a row to make the series score between the two 22-15-1 overall. The games between the PSAC rivals are usually close, like the 2-1 overtime win Millersville enjoyed last year. IUP was defeated 4-0 in the second match-up of the schools in 2015.
- Millersville defeated IUP 4-0 in its last meeting sneaking out an overtime victory in the previous game. The Marauders piled up 17 corners and 12 shots in the win, dominating time of possession in a true testimony of how talented the Marauders are both this year and last. Rumler was only forced to make one save in the game.
- Millersville is coming off two exciting games against ranked opponents, but IUP cannot be taken lightly. The Hawks are 4-2 so far, earning an impressive victory over No.3 Bloomsburg last Saturday. The IUP offense has been led by Allison Sheahan, who has racked up four goals in six games, placing her in the top ten in the NCAA for goals per game. IUP has won their last two games and will be eager to take on No. 4 Millersville.
