Tournament Information PSAC Tournament Central Date: Oct. 15-16, 2016 Location: Hershey Country Club East Course, Hershey, Pa. PSAC Championship History |
• Parity continues to prevail at the PSAC Championships. There has been a different winner in each of the last four PSAC Championships with Mercyhurst winning in 2015, West Chester winning in 2014, Millersville in 2013 and Indiana (Pa.) in 2012. Millersville finished seventh last season but three Marauders finished in the top-15. The Marauders are very much in contention, but they have finished behind Mercyhurst, Westchester and IUP in three tournaments, with one finish ahead of West Chester. Millersville has won four championships since 1999. The only program with more in that span is IUP with nine.
• The Marauders started strong this season finishing in the top half of every competition including a second place finish at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
• Redshirt senior Rodney Anders and junior Connor Sheehan lead the Marauders in scoring average and top-25 finishes. Anders averages a 75.33 per round and finished second at the Hal Hansen Invitational and tied for first at the Mercyhurst Invitational. Sheehan averages a 75.66 per round while posting two first-place finishes. Sheehan won a tiebreaker playoff against Anders and Clarion's Loren Dukate at the Mercyhurst Invitational. Anders is the team's lone senior and tied for 14th at the tournament last season--tying for top honors among Marauders. Anders also tied for 25th there in 2014. Sheehan has plenty of experience at Hershey East. While he's played there twice already in his Marauder career (28th in 2014 and 30th in 2015), he also has played at the course in amateur tournaments and in the PIAA Championship as a high school golfer.
• Matt Spak played consistently to start the season. The sophomore finished in the top-10 in his last two matches while averaging 77.14 per round this season.
• Mitchell Burns finished in the top-half of every tournament including three straight top-25 finishes. The junior averaged 78.77 per round this season.
• Bret Howey is the Marauder with the best track record at the PSAC Championship. He placed 10th at the tournament as a freshman in 2014 and took 14th in 2015. Howey, however, owns an 80.3 scoring average this season, which is two shots higher than his average from 2015-16.
• Mercyhurst is likely the favorite after winning each of the last two tournaments in which it has competed--the Mercyhurst Invitational and Gannon's Howard "Bud" Elwell Classic. Chris Kupniewski has been the team's top finisher in both tournaments.
• The men and women play the championship on the same course. The men tee off on No. 10 Saturday, starting at 9:10 a.m. The men's field will tee off on No. 1 Sunday.
