West Chester Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team joined the men's squad in West Chester this weekend to compete in the PSAC Individual Championships. Competing for the Marauders in the singles bracket were Tori Davis and Kaylora Thompson. The duo also teamed up in the doubles bracket.
Due to the inclement weather, only seven women's singles matches in the first round of the Individual Tennis Championships were played on Saturday at West Chester. Play was delayed multiple times throughout the day until the championship committee deemed the courts unplayable, and play was resumed today at 8 a.m. The format of the tournament also changed as all singles matches leading up to the championship match were determined by one set.
Tori Davis defeated Catherine Garrity of Bloomsburg University, 8-4. Davis didn't fare so well in her next matchup as Oranza Carrillo of Edinboro defeated her, 6-2.
Kaylora Thompson was able to compete Saturday and lost her first set 8-5 before the match was postponed until Sunday morning when she lost 8-3 in the final set.
Meanwhile in doubles, the team of Thompson and Davis advanced past the first round as they defeated Shippensburg's duo Juila Saintz and Emily Cox, 6-1. In the second round they bowed out to the eventual champions Jesse Burrell and Kiefer Shaw of California University (Pa.).
The Marauders travel to Maryland to battle the Fighting Owls of Harford Community College on Sept. 24.
