Barton Ties Career Wins Record as Marauders Take Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - Millersville senior pitcher Tad Barton moved to the top of the program's career wins list and helped the Marauders to a 2-1 victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against East Stroudsburg, ensuring a series victory. East Stroudsburg salvaged one win in the four-game series with a 7-2 triumph in the finale.

Barton (3-1) tossed his second consecutive complete game and has now allowed only two runs and six hits over his last 14 innings. Barton's win was the 22nd of his career, placing him in four-way tie with Brad Everly (1988-91), Timm Bromirski (1996-99) and Matt Wagner (2000-03). He was outstanding in his fifth career start (3-2) against East Stroudsburg (13-6, 1-3 PSAC East). He surrendered just four hits and struck out seven while not walking a batter.

He outdueled Matt Smith (1-1), who worked six innings and allowed just six hits and struck out seven without a walk. Millersville (14-7, 3-1 PSAC East) simply took advantage of opportunities to score its two runs. Tyler McDonald was hit by a pitch to start the second. Dan Neff followed with a single and a Kurt Seiders sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Mark Stucky hit a chopper deep in the hole between third base and shortstop. McDonald scored easily on the play.

ESU knotted the game at 1-1 in the fourth on an Eric Forth RBI ground out, but the Marauders took the lead back in the fifth when Dan Johnson doubled off the base of the wall in left field. Tyler Orris, who led off the inning with a single, scampered home for the winning run.

ESU put a runner on in the sixth but Barton retired two in a row to end the threat, and he worked a perfect seventh with three ground outs.

The Marauders were not as sharp in the series finale. ESU  received seven solid innings from Brandon Holup (2-1). Marauder starter Logan Grant (1-1) was chased after allowing four runs--two earned--in 3.1 innings. ESU added three more off of Jesse Mowen. Millersville didn't do itself any favors with three errors, a passed ball and two wild pitches.

Seiders led the Marauders at the plate with a single, double and two runs scored. Orris stole his PSAC-leading 20th base of the season.

Millersville hosts USciences for a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Cooper Park. At the conclusion of the twinbill, Millersville will have played eight games in four days.
