Seniors Spark Marauders to Victory

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville field hockey's seniors took center stage on Saturday. In ther final regular season home game, Marauder seniors Katelyn Zapp, Champayne Hess and Alicia Youtz accounted for Millersville's scoring in a 2-0 win over Indiana (Pa.).
Zapp's 14th goal of the season stood as the game-winner, and she added an assist on Hess' ninth tally. Classmate Lauren Sotzin made one save and picked up her nation's best 10th shutout of the season. It was only fitting for the seniors to shine as the group of eight has won more games than any other four-year class in Millersville history, posting a 56-23 record including a 35-5 mark over the last two seasons.
Millersville started slowly, and IUP took the game's first shot in the 21st minute and recorded another one minute later which was saved by Sotzin. Zapp and the Marauders started turning up the offensive heat in the 24th minute, taking seven shots over the final 11 minutes of the period. The breathrough came at 29:55. Youtz took a shot off of a rebound, and Zapp tipped it low past keeper Darian Shuker.
The Marauders controlled the final 35 minutes. They did not surrender a shot the rest of the way, and Hess added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when she tipped positioned herself on the right post and redirected Zapp's shot into the goal for her ninth tally of the season.
Millersville held a 20-2 advantage in shots and a 16-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Millersville (16-2, 11-2) now turns its attention to the PSAC Semifinals, which will be played against to-be-determined opponent at West Chester on Nov. 14.
