Sotzin, Marauders Deny West Chester

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville's rock solid defense and Lauren Sotzin's goalkeeping made two early goals from Katelyn Zapp and Alicia Youtz hold up for a 2-0 win over No. 4-ranked West Chester Tuesday afternoon.
Millersville (11-1, 5-1 PSAC) scored its eighth shutout of the season and its second consecutive win over West Chester. The Marauders also improved to 7-0 with only one goal surrendered at home. They now have outscored opponents 32-1 and recorded five consecutive shutouts on home turf.
The Marauders' defense rose to the challenge when a desperate West Chester club cranked up the offensive pressure. The Marauders held a 5-1 edge in shots and penalty corners in the first half, but West Chester led 7-2 in both categories over the final 35 minutes. Sotzin denied all five shots fired her way and also turned away a penalty stroke from the PSAC's leading scorer Kelsi Lykens 12 minutes into the half.
Sotzin, who now owns 17 career shutouts, saved two more shots in the final 15 minutes of action to preserve the win.
Millersville opened the game with four penalty corners in the first 23 minutes. On the fourth corner, Rachel Dickinson pushed the ball past a defender, and in one motion, Zapp swept the ball off the turf and past Audree Bonvaita for her fifth goal of the season.
Just over seven minutes later, Champayne Hess carried the ball toward the right side of the cage and flipped a quick pass to Youtz, who was breaking into the center of the circle. Youtz seamlessly ripped a low shot that beat Bonavita for the 2-0 lead.
Millersville has not allowed a regulation goal in 467 minutes of action. It is also only two shutouts away from tying the school record that was set just last season.
Only one home game remains for Millersville, which travels to Virginia Beach and the National Training Center for two games over the weekend. Millersville plays No. 8 Limestone on Saturday at 1 p.m. and takes on Newberry Sunday at 1 p.m.
