Singles Bracket | Doubles Bracket
Bloomsburg, Pa. – Last year, rain washed away all PSAC Individual Championships competition with a massive flood. This year, women's tennis had a chance to compete, but only Melissa Plowman was able to even continue past the first round of the Championships, but eventually bowed out in the second round.
Plowman, an All-PSAC Singles and Doubles Team pick a year ago, won her first round matchup with Lauren Zezenski by 6-1 and 6-0 scores. That win was the only one Plowman would muster, however. In the second round, she drew Michelle Perez of host Bloomsburg. Perez put the home-court advantage to use, dropping Plowman out of singles play by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
Liz Wagner and Kelsey Waite were the only other women's tennis players to compete in the singles bracket. Wagner met Indiana's (Pa.) Abby McCormick, and McCormick got the better of Wagner, knocking her out with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Waite ran into Janelle Krantz from Slippery Rock and took Krantz to a third set before exiting. Waite took the first set with a 6-0 blanking. From there, however, it was all Krantz, who won the second set 6-0 and won the tiebreak, 10-2.
Plowman and Waite were the only duo for Millersville in the doubles bracket. The Marauder tandem met IUP's Tanya Timko and Emilia Osborne in the first round of play. Timko and Osborne combined to take care of Plowman and Waite with an 8-5 win. IUP's pairing is still alive in the semifinals.
If any of the players that played today want to enter into a consolation bracket, it will be available for them to do so tomorrow. In the meantime, the team turns its attention to its next match on the calendar, Oct. 1 at Harford Community College. That match is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
