Harford, N.J. – The Millersville men and women's tennis teams had a double-dip Monday with Harford Community College, and both teams took care of business. The men's team won 6-3 and the women dispatched of the Fighting Owls 9-0.
The men were aided by strong efforts from Tucker Mertz and Kevin Tran, who teamed up to win a doubles match 8-1 and also took care of their own singles matches. Mertz beat Sluchenkov by 6-2, 6-3 scores and Tran won in convincing fashion over Waf 6-1, 6-3. The other Marauder to win both matches was Dylan Ryan, who paired with Niko Mucci for a doubles win of 8-3. Ryan won his singles match 6-2, 6-3.
As good as the men's team was, the women's team was even stronger in its blanking of the Fighting Owls. Melissa Plowman got the team started with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win, and Kelsey Waite followed up with a 6-1, 6-1 decision to keep the Marauders rolling. Plowman and Waite would later get together for doubles play to defeat Cox and Richardson by an 8-1 score.
Following Waite was Elizabeth Wagner, who only allowed Emilie Keith to win one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Alexandra Heller was strong in the next singles match, registering another Millersville win by blanking Shelby Mink 6-0, 6-0. Nicole Daacke became the third and final Marauder to not allow her opponent a game while defeating Anderson 6-0, 6-0. Daacke and Jess Taleff had the strongest doubles showing, cruising to an 8-0 win over Mink and Brandi Dean.
This was the final fall match for the men's team, as it now waits until March 17, 2013 to get its spring schedule started in Hilton Head, N.C. against Allegheny College. That match begins at 11:30 a.m. The women's team, on the other hand, plays against Goldey-Beacom Wednesday on its home court at the McComsey Tennis Courts. That match time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
