Millersville, Pa. – The No. 9 West Chester Golden Rams scored the game's first six goals and never looked back against Millersville Tuesday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Millersville was outshot 50-13 in the contest to fall to the Golden Rams by a score of 18-5 .
West Chester (7-1, 5-1 PSAC) scored six-straight goals to open regulation to take a 6-0 lead with 15:12 left in the first half. Nicole Pyle led the opening charge with two goals and one assist.
Junior Ashley Henderson netted back-to-back goals for Millersville (4-6, 1-4 PSAC) in a 36 second span to cut the Golden Rams' lead to 6-2 with 8:29 in the first. West Chester found one more goal to take a 7-2 lead at the break.
The teams exchanged a pair of goals to open the second half with the Golden Rams scoring the first two by Jamie Dolan and Lauren Glassey to take a 9-2 advantage. Brooke Fisher and Karen Illuminati cut the lead back to 9-4 in favor of West Chester four minutes later.
Caitlin Shannon scored Millersville's fifth goal with 12:04, but it was after the Golden Rams had increased their lead to 12-4 with three-straight goals.
West Chester closed out the final 11 minutes with six unanswered goals, including three by three by Glassey, to leave Millersville with the 18-5 victory. Glassey finished with a game-high six goals and two assists.
Goalkeeper Lauren Mateja (4-6) made a career-high 18 saves in the loss.
West Chester has now won 33-straight games against the Marauders dating back to 1990.
Millersville is back in action this Thursday, April 5 at Kutztown at 4 p.m.
The Marauders hosted West Chester in the annual “Lax-4-Life” game to raise awareness and funding for adolescent suicide prevention. The teams gathered for a group photo prior to today's contest, which can be seen below.
