
Millersville Torches Mavericks in First Half for Second Win

Urbana, Ohio – The Millersville women's lacrosse team traveled to Urbana, Ohio for a neutral site affair with Colorado Mesa on Thursday for its first-ever meeting. The Marauders took at nine-goal halftime lead before finishing off the Mavericks by a score of 19-6 to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Colorado Mesa (2-5) scored first on a goal by Tayler Lansdown for the early 1-0 lead. Millersville (2-2) responded with two free position goals by Caitlin Shannon and Ashley Henderson to grab its first lead at 2-1.
With the score tied 3-3 the Marauders scored five unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead. Henderson led the surge with her second free position goal of the contest. Millersville then saw goals from Karen Illuminati, Henderson's third of the half, Brooke Fisher and Kathryn Kehring before the Mavericks were able to answer back.
The Mavericks' Allie Henderson scored an unassisted goal to make it 8-4 in favor of Millersville. But the Marauders stayed focused and closed out the half with five more unanswered goals.
Illuminati scored her second of the half to get things started. Fisher added back-to-back goals to make it 11-4 before Kehring scored twice more to give Millersville a 13-4 lead at the break.
Henderson scored for Colorado Mesa to open the second half, but the Marauders outscored the Mavericks 6-1 in the final 28 minutes of regulation to capture their second-straight win by a score of 19-6.
Millersville's Henderson led all scorers with five goals, while also adding an assist. It was Henderson second five-goal performance in four games. Fisher, Kehring and Caitlin Shannon all finished with three goals apiece, with Fisher tacking on two assists.
The Marauder goalie Lauren Mateja (2-2) was strong in the crease stopping 11 of 17 shots on goal to earn her second win in as many games.
