Millersville, Pa. - The cool morning weather and the black Millersville helmets glinting in the sunlight made Saturday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium feel like October. But it was only the first day of spring football practice for head coach Greg Colby and his Marauders.
Millersville, looking to continue its upward trend in its third year under Colby, worked in helmets during the opening workout. Led by 15 seniors, the Marauders worked through fundamentals and installation before closing practice with a rousing seven-on-seven drill that saw quarterback Bill Shirk hook up with favorite target and All-PSAC East wide receiver Jamal Smith for a long touchdown strike.
Shirk and Smith return to lead an offense that returns seven starters and 2008 leading rusher Cardoza Jacks. On the defensive side, Colby welcomes back 10 of 11 starters including the entire front seven. All four starters on the line--led by All-PSAC East defensive tackle--are seniors.
