Stonehill Tops Marauders, 13-4

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team struck first in Tuesday's non-conference home game, but it was all Stonehill after that as the visiting Skyhawks scored six unanswered to close the first half and eventually pulled away by a 13-4 final.
Millersville (6-9) opened the scoring 3:20 into the contest on an unassisted goal from Kelly Kemper. At 8:33, though, Stonehill (8-4) received its first goal and the flood gates opened. The Skyhawks built a 6-1 lead by halftime.
Millersville received goals within the first five minutes of the second half from Liz Weekley and Katie DiRico, cutting Stonehill's advantage to 7-3. But the Marauders couldn't draw any closer as Stonehill tallied five unanswered before Millersville's Katie Moatz scored with 4:12 left to stop the run.
Stonehill held a 39-15 advantage in shots and won 15 of the 19 draw controls. Courtney Haggerty faced 20 shots in the first period and 19 in the second and made 15 saves.
The Marauders close their 2009 season on Wednesday at home against Shippensburg. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
