Game 1
Game 2
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Two big innings in Saturday's PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader provided East Stroudsburg with just enough to Millersville by scores of 12-0 and 3-2 and stop the Marauder's winning streak at six.
The Marauders (20-17, 7-9) took the first two games of the series at home Friday, and home field advantage proved to be a factor on Saturday as well. East Stroudsburg (26-19, 8-12) erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one, and in game two, it did all of its scoring in the first inning.
In the opener, Jeremy Gigliotti (4-2) worked the full seven innings and allowing just five hits. It was just the second time in 2009 that the Marauders were blanked for an entire game.
Marauder starter
Forrest Mengle was excellent early, pitching three shutout innings before the Warriors picked up two in the fourth on a pair of RBI base hits. Millersville's best opportunity came in the top of the fifth when it put two runners on but failed to get them home.
East Stroudsburg jumped on the Millersville pitching staff in the sixth by posting 10 runs on nine hits. Three of the runs were credited to Mengle (5-2) and the other seven were divided among three Millersville relievers.
The Warriors kept the momentum rolling into game two, scoring three runs on three hits off Millersville's
Derek Kline in the first frame.
Kline (2-2), however, settled in and did not surrendered another hit in his final five innings of work. He completed the game with seven strikeouts and two walks. He also walked twice and singled at the plate.
Millersville scored twice in the top of the second, but that would be all the scoring it could manage. ESU's Andy Noga blanked the Marauders in his final four innings and exited the game in the top of the seventh. Christian Saveri entered and picked up the save with a shutout seventh inning.
Millersville out-hit ESU 7-3 in the game but stranded seven runners.
Kent Gerdes and
Scott Slembecker plated Millersville's lone runs.
Kline recorded a hit in both games to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
The Marauders travel to Lock Haven Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is 1 p.m.
