Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Katie DiRico totaled three goals and two assists, and the Millersville women's lacrosse team held off a late rally by Slippery Rock for a 14-11 road victory Saturday afternoon.
The win improved the Marauders to 3-3 overall and dropped Slippery Rock to 2-7. The score stood 7-5 at the half, the but the Marauders scored three unanswered to start the second period to open a sizable 10-5 advantage with just over 23 minutes remaining.
Slippery Rock, however, would not go quietly. With 9:02 left in the contest, The Rock received the first of three consecutive goals in a one minute, 38 second span that reduced Millersville's lead to 12-11. But with 5:38 to go, Brittany Long scored to push Millersville's lead back to two, and Liz Weekley provided some insurance with 3:31 left on her third goal of the game and team-leading 18th of the season.
The Marauders received multiple goals from five different players. Weekley and DiRico led the way with three apiece. Weekley also totaled seven ground balls. DiRico and Katrina Segar tied for a team-high with two assists apiece. Segar also scored twice.
Long and Mary Houtmann scored two goals as well. Houtmann led the team with four draw controls.
Millersville held a 33-22 advantage in total shots. Goalkeeper Courtney Haggerty finished with five saves.
Millersville returns to action Sunday afternoon at Seton Hill.
