Doubles Play Highlights First Day at ITA Regional

Bloomsburg, Pa. – Play was limited because of rain on the first day of competition at the women's tennis ITA Atlantic Region held at Bloomsburg University, but two Millersville's doubles teams advanced to the second round in their respective brackets.
The team of Andrea Konas and Samantha Prager defeated Shippensburg's top team by an 8-4 score to move to the round of 16 in the "A" bracket. In the "B" draw, Millersville's Shauna Powers and Samantha Souders also defeated a Shippensburg team, but cruised by a 8-0 score. Powers and Souders improved to 5-0 on the season with the victory.
Lindsay Knappenberger and Jenny Habecker did not fair as well, falling 8-3 to a tandem from W.Va. Wesleyan.
The lone Marauder to advance in singles action was the 10th-seeded Knappenberger, who received a bye in the first round. Knappenberger enters the regional with a spotless 7-0 record.
Knappenberger and the two doubles teams will continue play Sunday and Monday from Bloomsburg.
