Clarion, Pa. – The Millersville women's tennis team got back on track Saturday afternoon as it swept IUP in singles play, and won two of its three doubles matches to defeat Indiana (Pa.) 8-1.
After jumping into the season with a 4-0 start, the Marauders dropped two in a row to Philadelphia and Clarion. On Saturday, however, it was all Millersville.
The Marauders' record now stands at an impressive 5-2.
Andrea Konas dropped the first set of the day to IUP's Emily Shubra but quickly righted the ship, taking Shubra deep into the third set and gutting out the win 3-6, 6-2, (10-6).
In the second match, freshman Samantha Prager posted her first win of the season, cruising to a straight set victory over IUP's Kerri Kelly 6-3, 6-3.
The third match saw senior Lindsay Knappenberger extend her perfect singles record to 7-0 on the season with a win over IUP's Alyssa Shubra. It wasn't easy, though. Shubra took Knappenberger to a third set, before Knappenberger took the win 6-4, 4-6, (10-3).
At No. 4 singles, senior Jenny Habecker raised her singles record above .500 with a straight set win over Kelsey Herrmann 7-5, 6-1. Matches five and six also ended in straight set victories for Millersville, as freshman Samantha Souders beat Kristy Jacobson 7-5, 6-1, and sophomore Michelle DeStefano defeated Laura Kale 6-2, 6-0.
Millersville will look to turn Saturday's victory into a winning streak when it takes on Delaware State in Dover, Del. on Thursday.
