Millersville

Maria Thompson

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant

One of the most respected and accomplished student-athletes in recent Millersville history, Maria Thompson has served as a volunteer coach with the field hockey program since 2013.

Thompson, who received a bachelor's degree from Millersville in 2013, was a significant contributor to the Marauder field hockey return to prominence. She was a four-year starter, four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and a PSAC East Second Team selection as a freshman.

On the sidelines, Thompson has been a part of two of the most successful seasons in program history. From 2013-14, the Marauders posted a 39-6 record, played in back-to-back PSAC Championship games and NCAA Tournaments. The 2014 club won the NCAA Division II Championship--the first for any women's team in Millersville history.

As a player, her play at the defensive end coupled with her work in the classroom made her an all-around student-athlete. Thompson posted a 4.0 GPA during her collegiate career, and as a senior, she was named the PSAC Champion Scholar prior to the PSAC semifinals. Thompson was also recognized as a SGI/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction.
