Wagner leads Marauders to a fourth place finish in Dickinson Invite

CARLISLE, Pa. - Just two days after finishing seventh in their previous tournament, the Millersville University men's golf team bounced back with a fourth-place finish in its second invitational of the season, posting a two-round team score of 578.
With the quick turnaround, the Marauders focused on playing with confidence and attacking the course. "We wanted the guys to swing freely and carefree," head coach Matt Shur said. "We felt that there were birdies to be made on this course, and the mindset was to make aggressive swings to conservative targets."
That approach helped Millersville stay within striking distance throughout both rounds. The Marauders were led by senior Logan Wagner, who finished tied for fifth individually at 4-under par with a 140. Wagner opened with a 1-under 71 before firing the team's lowest round of the tournament, a 3-under 69 in the second round.
"Logan is very important to the success of our team and he is someone that the younger guys can look to," Shur said. "He leads by example with how he competes. He does not play scared, he goes out with the mindset that he is trying to win the golf tournament."
Wagner entered the second round in a good position and continued to climb the leader board without changing his approach. "Logan was in a good spot after Round 1, and just kept playing his game working his way up the leader board," Shur said.
Jon Breinich followed Wagner with a tied-for-13th finish at even par, shooting a 144. Breinich gave the Marauders a strong start with a 2-under 70 in the opening round before finishing with a 74.
Carson DiBiaso finished tied for 27th at 2-over par with rounds of 72 and 74. Lawson Leeper placed 38th at 4-over, improving from a 75 in the opening round to a 73 in the second. Cole Duffy rounded out the Millersville lineup in a tie for 44th at 5-over, carding a 75 followed by a 74.
While the Marauders climbed three spots from their seventh-place finish just two days earlier, Shur recognized that there were still opportunities left on the course.
"We did a good job both days keeping ourselves in the tournament and fighting until the end," Shur said. "We made a few mistakes that cost us, but this experience is one that we will grow from...As a team, we are gaining momentum and excited to see what we can do at future events."
The Marauders will look to continue that momentum when they return to action Sept. 12 at the Bloomsburg Husky Invitational.
