Millersville and West Chester met in the PSAC Tournament title game with Millersville winning 2-1 behind 8 2/3 innings from Rece Ritchey. Millersville managed just four hits in the championship game, but Donis Rodriguez walked, stole two bases and scored a run in the first inning and drove in the deciding run in the second inning with a double. Rodriguez was named the PSAC Tournament MVP.
West Chester won three of the four regular season meetings, but all three wins were decided by one run. In a 4-3 series opening win at Cooper Park, West Chester scored all of its runs by the end of the third inning against 'Ville starter Eli Simonton. Carter Rust went 3 for 4 with a home run. Millersville won game two of the series 6-0 on the strength of a five-run fourth inning and 5 2/3 innings of one-hit ball from Alex Kuehn. Millersville led game three at West Chester 5-0 before Landen Rozich's grand slam in the bottom of the fourth tied the game with four unearned runs. West Chester went on to win that game 7-6, and then won game four 4-3 when Rust walked off with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh.
West Chester, with a 19-17 record, is the only PSAC team to hold a winning record at Cooper Park. Jon Shehan is 36-40 against West Chester since becoming Millersville's head coach in 2008. Mike LaRosa is 13-12 against the Marauders since taking the West Chester job in 2021. Five of the last six meetings have been decided by one run, and the teams have played 10 one-run games since 2023. While both teams have been fixtures in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, they have played just four times with Millersville holding a 3-1 record with three consecutive wins. Millersville won both games in 2023 en route to an appearance at the NCAA Championship. The Marauders also won a 2018 match-up. West Chester's lone NCAA playoff win over Millersville came in the first round of the 2015 Atlantic Regional. Millersville has advanced to Cary four times, with three of the Atlantic Region championship wins coming under the direction of Shehan (2023, 2016, 2011). West Chester's last regional title came in 2022. West Chester had gone 1-6 in regional play over the previous three seasons before three convincing wins last week.
West Chester's pitching staff is led by D2CCA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year Julian Costa. The Golden Rams rank second in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings and walk-to-strikeout ratio. Millersville's staff has also been outstanding with four consistent starters and All-America candidate Joe Morrissey in relief. The Marauders rank sixth nationally in hits allowed per nine, seventh in ERA and 12th in WHIP. West Chester's offense leads the PSAC in on base percentage while Millersville's ranks third and set a school record with 147 hit-by-pitches.
