ABOUT THE GAME
- Millersville is back in the NCAA Atlantic Regional for a 13th consecutive season, and it is back at Cooper Park, hosting a regional for the ninth time since 2011. The Marauders have been one of the region's top two seeds in four of the last five seasons. Joining the Marauders at The Coop for one of two three-team regionals are Seton Hill and Charleston, no strangers to the NCAA postseason and no strangers to Millersville. The Marauders and Griffins have played seven NCAA playoff games in the last three seasons and 15 all-time. Charleston is back in the NCAA Regional for the seventh time since 2018. In 2024, Charleston was one of the final four teams remaining, Millersville and Charleston played in the first round of the 2023 regional at Millersville, and in 2022, Charleston eliminated Millersville at Cooper Park and came within one win of the Super Regional.
- Millersville is a stellar 41-29 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, and Jon Shehan is responsible for 36 of those wins and three of the program's four regional championships. The Marauders won their first regional title in 1998, and Shehan led the Marauders to the NCAA Championship tournament in Cary, N.C., in 2011, 2016 and 2023. Millersville served as the host of all three of those regional wins, although only the 2023 regional was played at Cooper Park. Shehan and Seton Hill's Marc Marizzaldi are two of four PSAC coaches all-time who have led their programs to three regional championships. Charleston's Dean Peterson is in his third season at the program's head coach. He was previously the pitching coach at Frostburg State from 2021-23 and faced the Marauders twice with Millersville winning both.
- Millersville won its fourth PSAC Championship under Shehan, going 4-0 with two wins over nationally ranked teams. History is not on Millersville's side. No PSAC champion has won the regional since 2012, and that was a West Chester club that won the national championship. Millersville's 1998 club accomplished the feat, but since then, it has only occurred twice.
- Seton Hill won a program record 41 games in the regular season and went 26-2 against the PSAC West. While Millersville knocked the Griffins out of the PSAC Tournament in their first game, an early exit from the conference tournament hasn't impacted teams regional performances. Last season, East Stroudsburg lost in the first round of the PSAC Tournament but advanced to Cary. Millersville went out in the first round in 2023 but then went 5-0 to win the Super Regional.
- Charleston started its season 0-10, won one of its first 15 games, lost its final two games of the regular season and its MEC Tournament opening round game 12-6 to Frostburg State before setting off on an improbable four-game run. Collin Kemp's walk-off double capped a three-run bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 win over Glenville State. Charleston won its next two games and then edged Glenville State in the MEC title game 6-5, scoring all six runs in the second inning. No Mountain East Conference team (or WVIAC before that) has won the regional since West Virginia State in 1999.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
- Playing at home is a game-changer for the Marauders. Millersville is 23-4 at home and those losses have come by a grand total of five runs. The Marauders hit .296 with a .439 OBP and hold opponents to a .223 batting average with a 2.91 ERA at home compared to a .287 average, .414 OBP, .281 batting average against and 6.36 ERA in true road games. At home, Troy Chamberlin is hitting .375 in 40 at-bats, Xavier Smith is hitting .353 with a .553 OBP, Matthew Williams is slashing .337/.481/.590, and Brady Ebbert is slashing .329/.446/.573 at home. On the mound, Joe Morrissey is 4-0 with three saves and a 0.75 ERA at home. Alex Kuehn has been fantastic at The Coop, posting a 6-1 record, .199 batting average against and 1.91 ERA in seven starts. Rece Ritchey boasts a 2.22 ERA at home, and Eli Simonton owns a 2.75 ERA and .219 batting average against.
- Joe Morrissey picked up a win and a save in the PSAC Tournament, giving him five wins, six saves and a 1.02 ERA, which is the lowest by a Marauder with at least 30 innings pitched since 1999. The last Marauder to record at least four wins and four saves in the same season was Tyler Yankosky in 2019. Morrissey has struck out 55 batters while walking just 15 in 44 1/3 innings.
- The Marauders have been hit by 136 pitches, ranking third in all of Division II, and they've already set a new school record by more than 60. During the PSAC Tournament, Xavier Smith broke the program record that had stood since 2008 with his 26th hit-by-pitch. Millersville is 19-4 when getting hit by at least three pitches and 23-8 when drawing four or more walks.
- Matthew Williams is three RBIs away from becoming the first player with 40 or more RBIs in four seasons. Williams is one away from moving into a tie for ninth in school history in hits with 219. Williams is tied for third in PSAC history in home runs and ranks eighth in career RBIs, recently passing Bren Taylor '25. He is tied for seventh in program history with 165 runs scored and is tied for eighth with 103 walks.
- Jimmy Kirk enters the regional with a PSAC-leading 15 home runs. Kirk hit a walk-off home run in the PSAC Semifinal against East Stroudsburg. Kirk now ranks second in Millersville history behind Williams with 34 career home runs. His 141 career RBIs rank 10th in program history. This season, Kirk's 56 RBIs ranks second in the PSAC and first among PSAC East hitters.
- Donis Rodriguez won the PSAC Tournament MVP award after going 7 for 17 with five runs, three RBIs, four walks and five stolen bases. He had at least one hit, one run and reached base at least twice in all four games. He had two hits in each of the first three games, and his RBI double was the difference in a 2-1 win in the championship game.
SERIES HISTORY
- Entering this season, Shehan ranked 12th among active Division II coaches in career winning percentage and Marizzaldi ranked 17th. Both coaches have won over 600 games and three NCAA regionals. It is fitting that the all-time series between the two is all square at 15-15. The two programs have squared off in the NCAA playoffs 15 times since 2011 with Seton Hill holding a 9-6 edge. The Griffins ended the Marauders' season in 2013, 2014, 2021, and 2025 while the Marauders bounced the Griffins in 2024. Seton Hill has been oh-so-close to Cary in recent years. After winning the regional in 2021, the Griffins reached the Super Regional in 2023, 2024 and 2025 but went 1-6 in that round. Millersville and Seton Hill met in the PSAC Tournament a week ago with Millersville rolling to a 16-4 win behind a program tournament record six home runs. The 16 runs were the most Seton Hill had allowed to a PSAC program since joining the conference in 2014. Before last season's regional, Millersville was 7-0 at home against Seton Hill. The Marauders needed one win on the final day of the regional to advance to the Super Regional, but Seton Hill won 7-4 in game one and 8-2 in the second game. The Griffins scored all eight runs in the final three innings, including five in the top of the ninth.
- Millersville and Charleston last played in the 2024 regular season with Millersville winning 9-8 on a 10th inning walk-off single from Taso Kovack. In the 2023 regional the Marauders won 6-4 behind Sam Morris' 5 for 5, four-RBI performance. That Millersville team reached Cary. Millersville beat Charleston 9-4 in the opening game of the 2022 regional but was eliminated in a 17-5 loss a day later. Millersville knocked out the Golden Eagles at Charleston in the 2021 regional. The teams split in 2018 when Millersville hosted at Owls Field in West Lawn. Charleston won 3-0 in the first round but Millersville later eliminated Charleston by a 17-8 final. Seton Hill topped Millersville 5-0 in the next game to win that regional. In game one of that regional, current Millersville pitching coach Eli Nabholz struck out 10 and allowed two hits in eight scoreless innings but received a no decision as Charleston scored three in ninth off the bullpen.
