
Williams hits two homers as Marauders complete series sweep

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Matthew Williams slugged home runs in both games of Friday's doubleheader helping Millersville storm to a series sweep of Kutztown with wins of 5-0 and 12-3.
Millersville outscored Kutztown 41-5 in the series and has now won 10 in a row and 25 of the last 26 over the Golden Bears. The wins improved Millersville to 31-3 overall and 15-9 in PSAC East play.
Williams totaled three hits, four runs and three RBIs in the doubleheader. His home runs boosted his season total to eight and career total to 43, moving him into a tie for sixth in PSAC history. He also increased his career RBI total to 184, which ranks 12th in PSAC history.
Brady Ebbert went 1 for 2 with a triple, run, RBI and walk in the opener and followed it with another double and three RBIs in game two. Maddox Yost totaled three hits while catching in both games of the twinbill. Xavier Smithwent 3 for 3 with two runs in game two.
Millersville received outstanding pitching for the second day in a row. Rece Ritchey surrendered just one hit in four shutout innings. Joe Morrissey notched his fifth save, striking out five in three scoreless frames. In game two, Millersville used five pitchers with Carlos Caraballo getting the win with two strikeouts in a perfect inning.
Game one was a one-run ball game until Ebbert's RBI triple started a four-run sixth inning. Kutztown had its chances early, putting two on base in the first and second innings and loading the bases in the fifth, but each time, Millersville's pitching was up to the task. Morrissey struck out two consecutive hitters to end the bases-loaded threat in the fifth.
Game two was never in doubt. Millersville scored at least one run from the second through the sixth innings and out-hit the Golden Bears 12-5.
Millersville hosts first-place West Chester on Thursday, April 30, starting the final series of the regular season. The Marauders enter the series three games out of first place in the East.
