MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Alex Kuehn and Rece Ritchey tossed back-to-back complete games as Millersville baseball swept Concord by scores of 16-1 and 2-0 Saturday at Cooper Park.
Kuehn gave up a two-out run in the first inning of the opener, and then held Concord scoreless with one hit over the next six innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. Ritchey turned in the longest outing of his career, striking out eight while issuing just one walk and three hits.
While Concord scored first in the opener, Millersville scored early and often. The Marauders scored at least one run in each of the first three innings and led 9-1 entering the fourth. They chased Concord starter Jake Robinson from the game after 2 1/3 innings. Matthew Williams drilled a two-run home run as part of a five-run third, and Williams contributed again to a five-run sixth inning with an RBI single.
While Kuehn was dominant on the mound, Williams was just as dominant at the plate. He was intentionally walked, hit with two pitches and went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs. Marco Pulizzi, making the first start of his career, drove in two and scored twice. Hunter Stevens scored three runs. Donis Rodriguez went 3 for 3 with two walks, two RBIs and two runs.
Runs were at a premium in game two, however. Millersville didn't need much with Ritchey cruising, and both runs came in the third inning. Millersville recorded five singles in the frame, but managed just two runs, getting a sacrifice fly from Williams and an RBI single from Jimmy Kirk. Concord did not seriously threaten against Ritchey until the seventh when Dawson Maynard poked a one-out double down the right field line. Ritchey responded by striking out Austin Hear and getting pinch-hitter Alex Rodriguez to weakly ground out to Kirk at first.
Millersville, now 10-4, won its sixth game in a row and improved to 6-1 at home. Millersville has scored double-digit runs in six of 14 games, and the game two shutout was the team's first of the season. Williams ranks fifth in Millersville history and 17th in PSAC history in career RBIs with 170, trailing Luke Trainer '22 by just 23. He is one shy of becoming the 11 hitter in PSAC history with 40 career home runs.
