Marauders set PSAC record in win over No. 19 Felician

HAMPTON, Va. - Brady Ebbert's first-inning grand slam, a PSAC record 20 walks and stellar work from the pitching staff led Millersville to a dominant 16-1 win over 19th-ranked Felician Thursday.
Felician won 43 games and reached the NCAA Championship in Cary, N.C., last season, but Ebbert gave the Falcons a rude welcome to the 2026 season. With two outs in the top of the first, Matthew Williams and Jimmy Kirk drew walks, and Xavier Smith was hit by a pitch before Ebbert ripped his first homer as a Marauder over the right field wall. Donis Rodriguez drove in two with a double in the bottom of the second, and Ebbert added a bases-loaded walk to give the Marauders a 7-0 lead after two innings.
"We made two outs on three pitches to start the first," said Millersville head coach Jon Shehan. "To load the bases was big just to extend the inning. But Ebbert set the tone for the rest of the game. He got a mistake with two strikes and didn't miss it."
Millersville finished with only eight hits, but patience at the plate paid dividends as the lineup drew 20 walks, breaking the PSAC record of 18, which had stood since 2016. It was only the 18th time in NCAA history that a team has drawn 20 or more walks with the five teams tied with 22. Rodriguez accounted for two of the team's hits and finished with four RBIs. Ebbert plated five, drew three walks and scored three times. Williams drew four walks and scored two runs. Conor McCartney also logged three walks off the bench.
"I was really proud of our guys at the plate," said Shehan. "We get hit, we take borderline pitches. I actually applaud the umpire for calling a consistent zone the entire game. That's not always the case. Our decision making at the plate was really good for week two."
After allowing 35 runs in the opening three games of the season, Millersville's pitchers, starting with Matt Shamany, were sharp on Thursday. Shamany struck out three in three scoreless innings. Newcomers Logan Harelson, Christian Valent and Colten Shaffer followed with scoreless innings. Felician did not score until bottom of the seventh when Millersville led by 16. In his two appearances this season, Shamany has allowed two hits with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
"It was great to see Shamany and Harelson attack hitters," said Shehan. "Valent and Shaffer had nice debuts, and (Brody) Bump gave up a few hits but he throws multiple pitches on the plate and makes teams earn it. We need more of that. I was really happy with how the staff threw today."
Millersville continues its four-game series in in Hampton with a nine-inning game against Molloy Friday.
