ABOUT THE GAME
- Millersville and Glenville State meet for the first time since 2005 on Saturday, and both teams, coming off down-to-the-wire losses in week one, are seeking their first win of 2025.
- Millersville overcame a slow start against Frostburg State to score its most points in a season opener since 2014, and the impressive offensive display now has the Marauders ranked among the PSAC leaders in scoring (fourth), passing offense (fourth) and first downs (first). But four turnovers proved the difference as Millersville committed four, including one that resulted in a defensive touchdown. Glenville State had no issues generating yards in last week's 16-13 loss at Lock Haven. While Millersville piled up 24 first downs against Frostburg State, Glenville State totaled 23 and created 413 yards of offense. The Pioneers, however, went 1 of 4 on fourth down conversions and lost a fumble at the Lock Haven 3-yard line.
- Millersville, which is set to play seven home games for the second time in program history, opens with two consecutive home games for the first time since 2016 and the sixth time in the last 40 years. It is the second consecutive week, but just the sixth time in the last 20 years (2-3) that Millersville has played a Mountain East Conference team. Millersville is 5-3 all-time against current MEC member teams, including 4-0 against Glenville State.

'VILLE STORYLINES
- After totaling 62 yards on 25 plays in their first six series of the season, Millersville's offense caught fire over the final two-plus quarters against Frostburg State, scoring points on six of the final nine drives, totaling four touchdowns and 301 yards of offense. The Marauders finished with 261 yards passing. Quarterback Ryan Zeltt started 4 for 11 but closed 15 of 26 with two passing touchdowns. He completed three passes of at least 31 yards to three different wide receivers. Over his last three games, Zeltt has thrown eight touchdown passes and has passed for at least 261 yards in four of his last six.
- Millersville head coach J.C. Morgan utilized a running back rotation against Frostburg State, starting the first four series with four different players. JQ Brown, Mekhi Ashby, Isaiah Emmanuel and Jose Lopez all received at least seven carries, with Brown's 11 leading the way. The quartet combined for 115 yards on 35 carries. Ashby's 4.0 yards per carry led the team.
- Colin Hastings had a breakthrough performance on Thursday. He'd appeared in just five games and had no career catches entering the season, but he finished the opener with five grabs for 88 yards, including a 43-yard reception that is one of just eight catches of 40-plus yards by a PSAC receiver so far. Kam Taylor started his senior season by matching a career-high with five catches and setting a career-high with 88 yards. Taylor has six receiving touchdowns, three of which have been scored in his last four games. Fellow wide receiver Isaac Sines is also on an impressive run of games. Dating back to last season, he has made four or more catches in seven consecutive games and has a touchdown catch in the last two.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Bryce Beutler matched his career high with 12 tackles while also recording two tackles for loss and a sack. Beutler's 12 stops tied for the third-most in the PSAC last week, and he and Shippensburg's Nate Myers were the only PSAC players with double-digit tackles and at least two TFLs.
- Millersville finished the 2024 season with eight sacks. The defense is already off to a better start with two sacks against Frostburg State. Beutler's sack was the first of his career, and Max Hostetter recorded the first solo sack of his. The last time Millersville recorded two sacks in a game was the 2024 season opener against Clarion.
- Kicker Trent McDowell entered the season looking to be the third kicker in program history to record 45 or more points in three consecutive seasons. He closed 2024 by converting eight of nine field attempts and started 2025 by making both attempts against Frostburg State. He is now 21 of 28 in his career. Last season, McDowell ranked second in the PSAC in field goal conversion percentage and second in field goals made. Last week, he was one of three kickers in the PSAC to convert two or more field goals without a miss.
PIONEER STORYLINES
- The Pioneers are road warriors in 2025. With a new facility under construction, all of Glenville State's scheduled home games will be played at various neutral-site stadiums around West Virginia. The Pioneers opened the season with a game in Elkview, W.Va., against Emory & Henry, suffering a 45-17 loss, before traveling to Lock Haven and falling 16-13 last week. Glenville State has had success in the passing game with Anthony Garrett completing 60.3% of his passes and tossing four touchdowns. The Pioneers can be explosive in the passing game. Three different receivers have a catch of at least 36 yards. Garrett is in his second season as the team's starter. He threw 21 TD passes with four games of 200-plus yards in 2024.
- Glenville State will look to get the ball to Tariq Miller. Miller was an All-MEC Second Team selection in 2024 after ranking sixth in receptions, fourth in yards and third in touchdowns. He had a career-high 162 yards on six catches at Charleston. He enters Saturday's game 14 catches shy of 90 career receptions and 93 yards from 1,500 career yards.
- Glenville State has struggled to stop the run in the first two games. Emory & Henry rushed for 296 yards, and Lock Haven totaled 202. Opponents are averaging 6.2 yards per carry against the Pioneers. Both of their opponents had a rush of at least 44 yards.
- Glenville State head coach Mike Kellar is plenty familiar with the PSAC. He helped California (Pa.) to four PSAC West titles as the offensive coordinator, became the head coach of the program in 2012, and went 31-12 over four seasons. Millersville and California did not play during Kellar's stint as the Vulcans' head coach.
SERIES HISTORY
- Millersville is 4-0 against Glenville State, but the teams have not played since 2005. Three of the previous four meetings were at Biemesderfer Stadium. Millersville won the first meeting in 1986 by a 55-13 score. The most recent three games were all decided by three points or fewer. Millersville earned a narrow 27-25 win 2003, a 34-31 win on the road in 2004, and a 21-20 win in 2005.
- In 2004, Millersville rallied from a 31-14 deficit with 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Dan Csencsitz's touchdown pass to Ryan Clift with 2:16 to play capped the comeback. Csencsitz threw for 410 yards in that game. In 2005, Glenville State missed a 42-yard field goal attempt with 1:18 to play.
