Maruaders fall to No.3 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. --- Millersville field hockey gets its second straight loss to No. 3-ranked East Stroudsburg University Thursday night at East Stroudsburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Marauders got off to a hot start when, just 3:14 into the contest, Megan Alvarez opened up the scoring and gave Millersville the lead 1-0. The first quarter swung heavily in favor of the Maruaders, with Millersville having three shots on goal to East Stroudsburg's one. Millersville would hold the lead for the remainder of the first quarter.

Their lead did not last long into the second quarter before the Warriors tied it up just four minutes into play, making it a 1-1 contest. Less than three minutes later, the Warriors would strike again, this time taking the lead. The remainder of the second quarter would remain a stalemate as East Stroudsburg would take just one more shot on goal, but had a 2-1 lead going into the half.

The game stayed within reach for the Marauders courtesy of a huge third quarter from Sarah Crysler, who made five saves during the quarter. East Stroudsburg took eight corners in the third and eventually broke through Crysler off one of those corners to extend their lead.

The Warriors would run away with the game in the fourth with an offensive onslaught, taking 10 shots in the quarter that resulted in two goals to make the final 5-1.

Sarah Crysler made a career-high seven saves on 12 shots on goal and picked up her second loss of the season.
Megan Alvarez scored her third goal of the season.
The Marauders conceded 16 corners to the Warriors, the most in a game this season.

Getting your first look at ESU before conference play, what did you like about your teams performance today?
- "Thought we had a great first and second quarter. It was the third and fourth quarter that we have to really pay attention to credit to ESU. They found the back of the net a couple times and we just have to be better defensively no excuses."
Coming off the back of two losses, what will you do to ensure your team bounces back?
- "We get back to work do the things we know we're good at keep improving and learn from this. Come out strong next week."

Millersville will take on Kutztown next Wednesday at Kutztown at 6:00 p.m.
