MOHNTON, Pa. - Timothy Peters won his second consecutive tournament, and Millersville scored its first win of the spring schedule Tuesday at the Alvernia Spring Invitational held at Ledgerock Country Club.
The Marauders posted scores of 306 and 316 to pull away from runner-up Shepherd and win by 14 shots. Millersville's first-round score was the lowest of the tournament. It was the Marauders' second team win of the season and first since Sept. 23.
First place continued to be a familiar position for Peters, who won the Vulcan Fire Classic a week ago and has now won four times in eight events this season and eight times in 22 career starts. Peters won Tuesday on the strength of his first-round 2-under 70, which included seven birdies. He had to hold off a charge from Alvernia's Jackson Hoovler in the second round. The usually steady Peters slipped with a 77, shooting a 4-over without a birdie on the back nine, but his 3-over-par 36-hole total was enough to edge Hoovler by one shot.
Eric Miller tied for sixth at 13-over-par, shooting rounds of 75 and 82.
Sebastian Botero and
Bo Meakim tied for ninth at 14-over.
Logan Wagner tied for 13th at 16-over.
Max Pflieger and
Josh Baker tied for 18th in the 47-golfer field.
Millersville next competes in the Abarta Coca Cola Invitational on April 6-7.
