MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville lineup continued to hum in Tuesday's 13-3 win over Jefferson. The Marauders exploded for seven runs in the fifth and cruised to a sixth consecutive victory.
Millersville (6-1) totaled nine hits, drew seven walks and was hit by seven pitches to score double-digit runs for the fourth time in seven games and has scored 46 runs in the last four games--all against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
Sam Morris,
Sammy Laux and
Amani Jones all had two hits, and
Donis Rodriguez reached base four times with three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Rodriguez has drawn six walks in his last two games.
Keegan Soltis,
Bren Taylor and
Matthew Williams drove in two runs apiece.
Jefferson took a first-inning lead after a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly, but starter
Joe Morrissey did not allow a run in his next three innings and exited after allowing five hits and striking out three without a walk. His counterpart, Kevin Baez, held the Marauders in check with one hit allowed into the fifth, but with Laux on base and one out, he walked Rodriguez and hit
Jeff Sabater on an 0-2 pitch. Soltis' grounder in the hole at short was misplayed, and Laux scored. Williams then hit a roller over the second base bag, and the toss for the force out at second was dropped. Those two miscues opened the floodgates. Taylor singled in a pair, Morris singled in Soltis, Morris drove in Williams, Taylor scored on a wild pitch, and Jones' bunt single brought home Morris. Millersville scored seven on just four hits, and only one of the runs was earned.
Jones added a two-run double in the seventh, highlighting a four-run frame.
Mike Costello (2-0) picked up the mound victory after pitching the fifth.
Evan Rishell pitched two scoreless,
Gavin Lill was perfect with two K's in the eighth, and
Tucker Chamberlin made his collegiate debut with a scoreless ninth.
Millersville improved to 39-18 all-time with nine consecutive wins over Jefferson. The Marauders have scored 10 or more in seven of the last nine.
