WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Vulcan Fire Classic was the start of the spring season and another win for Millersville University sophomore
Timothy Peters. Peters ran away with medalist honors by four shots, scoring his third victory of 2024-25. He led Millersville to a fourth-place team finish.
Playing on the par-72 Lone Pines Country Club course, Peters finished the two-day event at even par. He closed the first day of competition in a tie for first with Cal U's Nixen Ederly at 3-over-par. But scoring proved far easier on Tuesday, and Peters pulled away by shooting a 3-under 69--one of only two under-par rounds in the tournament. Cal U's Chaz Ekoniak finished in second at 4-over.
Peters bogeyed the par-4 first hole, but played the other 17 holes bogey free with four birdies. Peters has now won seven events on six different courses in his young career. His most recent win before Tuesday was Sept. 23, 2024.
As a team, Millersville finished at 53-over, three shots behind runner-up Wilmington and 16 behind Cal U. Millersville's 37-over opening round score put it 13 shots out of first, but the team responded with a 16-over on Tuesday. Peters was Millersville's only countable scorer to finish inside the top 20.
Eric Miller placed 24th,
Josh Baker placed 26th, and
Bo Meakim and
Sebastian Botero tied for 28th. Maxwell Pflieger, in the field as an individual, placed sixth at 8-over-par. His second round featured four birdies.
Millersville travels to the Alvernia Invitational on March 31.
