LEBANON, Pa. - The Millersville men's golf team returned to the site of its PSAC Championship triumph and finished as the runner-up at the first Marauder Invitational played at Iron Valley Golf Course.
A slow start was ultimately the difference, as an opening round 310 put the Marauders 11 shots behind eventual winner Goldey-Beacom. Millersville made up ground in the second round with a 299 to pull within seven shots of the Lightning. Goldey-Beacom's 602 held up as the winning score.
As tournament host, Millersville put two teams in the field. The Marauders "gold" team finished fifth in the nine-team field, posting a 622--13 shots behind the "black" team.
Millersville freshmen Tim Peters and
Jake Speers paved the way, shooting identical 77's on Sunday and 73's on Monday to tie for second at 6-over-par. It was the same course where Peters won the PSAC Championship in October. Goldey-Beacom's Camilo Samur posted a 1-over-par score to win.
Eric Miller, play for the Millersville gold team, tied for fourth with rounds of 78 and 73. His second-round performance matched a career-low.
Ty Morral (black),
Bo Meakim (gold) and
Bobby Lugiano (black) all tied for 13th at 12-over-par.
Millersville travels to the IUP Invitationals on April 15-16.
