Record: 21-20, 12-12 PSAC

ABOUT THE GAMES

  • The Millersville softball team hosts the Shippensburg Raiders on April 20 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Marauders and six players are expected to be honored. After the Senior Day festivities, the Marauders look to take down the first-place Raiders and move up in the division standings.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders face a crossroads in their journey to the PSAC East Playoffs. After a dramatic sweep of Mansfield on Monday afternoon, Millersville dropped both ends of its twin-bill against West Chester on Tuesday. That dropped them from the fifth and final playoff spot to sixth in the division standings. After Thursday's split at Lock Haven, the Marauders remain in sixth place with a conference record of 12-12, two games behind Kutztown (12-10).
  • The first set of NCAA/NFCA Division II rankings was released on April 15 and considers games played through April 14. The Marauders were named as one of the top 10 teams in consideration and the ‘division RPI’ has them ranked sixth.
  • Starting pitcher Alex Schaefer was a massive part of the team's victory over the Bald Eagles in game one on Thursday. She threw all 10 innings and allowed just two earned runs for her fortieth career victory. It was the first time a Marauder had thrown 10 innings in a single game since Cassidy Pinchorski in 2017, and the 40 career wins tied Pinchorski for second on the ‘Ville’s all-time leaderboard.
  • Taylor Campagna enjoyed a good day at the plate against Lock Haven, reaching base four times in game one and five times on the day. She has raised her season batting average nearly 100 points over her last three games, tallying six hits and two extra-base hits in 10 at-bats.
  • Six players are scheduled to be honored at Senior Day: Aleese Angelo, Taylor Lenker, Gabby D'Ottavio, Morgan Crutcher, Schaefer and Campagna.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

  • Tied for the top spot in the division standings are the Shippensburg Raiders with a conference mark of 16-8. The Raiders have been up and down over the past couple of games but captured a sweep over No. 15 East Stroudsburg last week to claim the tiebreaker over the Warriors. Their last two home dates were against Shepherd and Bloomsburg and both teams managed to escape with a split.
  • Alicia Ball has been Shippensburg's workhorse this season and rightfully so, as she's fourth in the PSAC in earned run average(ERA) with a 1.93. She holds a record 16-3 on the year and has tossed 15 complete games. Ball's last outing was a complete-game shutout over Shepherd on April 16. Despite the glowing record and ERA, she has been susceptible to the free pass in 2024; the junior is third in the conference in walks with 63 in her 130.1 innings pitched. She threw very well against Millersville earlier this season, allowing just one run in seven innings of work
  • The other likely starter for the Raiders is freshman Madalyn Dyer. She sports a 3.36 ERA thus far in her rookie season but was touched up by the Marauder bats on March 30 to the tune of six earned runs across 5.1 innings of work. She handed out a career-high three walks without striking out a batter in that outing.
  • The offense is where they shine, with eight of their nine regulars hitting above .270 and two hitting over .400. Shippensburg has out-slugged opponents 40-17 in home runs and its 40 long balls are second in the conference. The Raiders rank in the top five in nearly every offensive category and have three players with eight or more home runs.

CHASING HISTORY

  • Aleese Angelo moved into the top spot on the Marauders' all-time leaderboards in both hits and doubles in the past week. The senior has a chance to move into the top spot in runs scored with a strong finish over the last eight games of the season. The record is 141 held by Lindsay Hosier and Angelo currently has 132.
  • Gabi Turner moved into second place all-time in runs batted in last week and now has 141. She is within striking distance of two more records, one of which she will surely break barring injury. Gabbie Berry holds the top spot in games played as a Marauder with 191, while Turner currently has 188. The first baseman could also become the team's all-time leader in walks in the coming days. Hunter Little holds the high mark with 87 and Turner is two away from tying that with 85.
