Marauder Invitational

Slow start results in seventh-place finish for Millersville men's golf

| By:
INDIANA, Pa. - A second-round charge was not enough to overcome a slow start to the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational as the Millersville men's golf team tied for seventh in a field of 15 teams.

Millersville's first-round 308 put it in 12th place and 27 shots out of the lead. Millersville improved its score by 16 shots on Tuesday, posting a 292, but it was still just the fifth-lowest round of the day. The Marauders finished at 32-over. It also ended a streak of eight consecutive tournaments finishing inside the top three.

In a deep and challenging field of 87 golfers, Bobby Lugiano was in the mix for medalist honors and finished in a tie for sixth at even-par, two shots behind a trio of golfers that finished at 2-under. Lugiano posted back-to-back 71s. On Tuesday, Lugiano started his round with a birdie on the par-5 11th hole, and he played the 14th through second holes at 3-under. Bogeys at No. 3 and No. 4 proved costly to his championship hopes, however, even after closing with six consecutive pars.

Eric Miller, in the field as an individual, could not help the Marauders' team score, but he shot 2-over-par 73 on both days. He's finished in a tie for 11th, and has now finished 11th or better in three consecutive tournaments.

Freshman Timothy Peters was the only other Marauder to crack the top 25. After a 6-over-par 77 on Monday, Peters fired an even-par 71 on Tuesday. His round included 15 pars. He started on the 11th hole and played his six holes in 2-over but bounced back with birdies at the par-5 first and and par-3 10th.
