EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - No. 15 East Stroudsburg extended its winning streak to 27 and gained some distance in the PSAC East standings by defeating No. 6 Millersville by scores of 3-0 and 14-3 Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors, now 30-4 overall and 18-0 in PSAC East action, received a complete-game, three-hitter from Brent Francisco (8-0) in a game one pitcher's duel with
Carson Kulina (7-1). It was Francisco's first career win over the Marauders in five starts. The result in game two was never in doubt as the Warriors jumped on Millersville starter
Conor Cook (6-10 for five runs in the first. Millersville entered the day 18-0 in games that Kulina and Cook pitched. It is the first time this season that Millersville has lost back-to-back games, and the the 11-run margin of victory in game two was ESU's largest over Millersville since 2009.
Francisco pitched his third consecutive shutout and has surrendered just five hits in his last 19 innings. Kulina matched the Warriors' ace pitch-for-pitch until the fifth when ESU managed to score the game's first run without a hit. Kulina plunked Walker Zampella with one out, and an errant throw on a pick-off attempt allowed Zampella to move into third base. He scored on Jeremy Piatkiewicz's sacrifice fly. Kulina walked the first two batters of the sixth, and two runs scored on Tim Haverstick's two-out single.
Kulina allowed just two earned runs, struck out four and walked one. Francisco scattered two hits while striking out six.
ESU started game two with five consecutive batters reaching base. The Warriors scored five on six singles and a walk. The Warriors built an 11-0 lead before the Marauders scored in the top of the fifth.
