Millersville men's golf opens spring with fifth consecutive tournament win

| By:
WASHINGTON, Pa. - Led by Bobby Lugiano's 1-under-par score and individual win, the Millersville men's golf team scored its fifth consecutive tournament win, cruising to first place at the 36-hole Vulcan Fire Classic.

Millersville closed the fall campaign with a record-setting run of four straight first-place finishes, and the Marauders showed no rust playing for the first time in five months. The Marauders rallied from a seven-shot deficit with a 2-over-par team score on Tuesday, beating runner-up Pitt-Johnstown by seven shots. Millersville finished at 19-over.

The Marauders played brilliantly Tuesday. Lugiano posted seven birdies and closed in 34 for a 2-under-par 70--the best round of the day. Freshman Timothy Peters also shot 1-under-par. He fired a 33 on the back nine, sinking an eagle on the par-5 13th and a birdie on the par-5 16th. Carl Ernst posted a 74 that included five birdies. Jake Speers managed a 3-over 75 despite playing the fifth and 13th holes in five over.

After 19 career top-10 finishes, Lugiano scored the first win of his career. He started the day in a three-way tie for first and distanced himself from the pack, topping Cal U's Reese Watson by three shots. Lugiano has now finished in the top 10 in five consecutive events. Peters finished in a tie for fourth, and Speers cracked the top 10 in a five-way tie for the 10th spot at 7-over. Ernst tied for 15th at 9-over-par.

Ty Morral tied for 32nd, and Bo Meakim, playing as an individual, tied for 45th in the 70-player field.
