Millersville sets runs record to complete sweep of Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. - Sixth-ranked Millersville baseball emphatically completed a series sweep of Mansfield by scoring 37 runs in the doubleheader, including 26 in game two--a program record for runs scored against a PSAC East opponent.

Millersville, now 18-3 overall and 8-0 in PSAC play, scored its most runs in a game since 2016. The previous record for runs scored against a PSAC East team was 24, which was most recently accomplished in 1990. Millersville won the opener 11-1 with four home runs, including two from Keegan Soltis. The Marauders totaled 22 hits in the record-setting game two performance, including four more home runs. Soltis delivered four hits and five runs.

Millersville is 7-0 in road games and has won 10 consecutive games, not allowing more than three runs in any of those games.

GAME 1
Mark McNelly's home run in the first and Soltis' homer in the second innings pushed the Marauders to an early lead, and the runs kept coming as the Marauders added at least one run in every inning of the game. Soltis doubled in a run in the third and hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Justin Taylor also hit a home run.

Alex Mykut, who improved to 5-0, did not need much run support. He struck out nine while allowing just five hits and three walks over six innings. Mykut has struck out nine in four consecutive starts, and has pitched at least five innings and not allowed more than a run in any of his six starts. Zack Tukis struck out three in the seventh.

GAME 2
Mansfield led 1-0 after the first inning, but Kirk began a home run barrage in the second inning. Williams hit a two-run shot in the third, followed by a two-run homer from Kirk and a solo shot from Amani Jones in the fourth. Millersville pushed 10 runs across in a fifth inning that included seven hits, three walks and three Mansfield errors. Holding a 17-2 lead in the seventh, Millersville scored nine more on eight hits. Seven of the Marauders hits were singles.

Soltis went 4 for 4, drew two walks and scored five runs. Kirk and Sam Morris both scored four runs. Six Marauders recorded two or more hits.

On the mound, Conor Cook improved to 3-0 by working five innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. He also struck out four.
