LANCASTER, Pa. – The Millersville women's tennis team had a successful first match of 2024 against Salem University on Friday night, winning 5-2.
In doubles play, Chloe Abramowitz and Sido Rault won their doubles match 6–3, and the Marauders secured the second doubles win since Salem only had two teams.
In singles play, Noelle Htwar was in the first match for the Marauders, getting the 'Ville started with a 6–3, 6–2 win. Rault earned two wins on the day, winning her individual match in comeback fashion 4–6, 6–3, 1–0. Lauren Hayes dominated her match, not ceding a point and winning 6–0, 6–0. The Marauders got another point due to Salem not having a sixth player.
Millersville improved to 2–1 and will next play during the team's spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
POSTGAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT HELSEL
Overall thoughts on the win: "Last year, Salem beat us 6-1. We won the doubles point and then got swept in singles. We had two individual rematches in singles this year and while we still lost those two courts, it set the tone for the whole night because instead of getting crushed, we were right at the cusp of victory in both matches. Great job to Chloe Abramowitz and Jen Soo. Chloe and Sido Rault got us a big doubles win to secure the doubles point also. Noelle Htwar had a rough fall in singles, but really stepped up tonight and played a fantastic match. Our senior captain and number one player led with her play and the team fed off it.
Salem is very tough and didn't give us anything. Sido had to come back to win, and Lauren Hayes got the clinching point for us in convincing fashion. Beating a team that beat us badly last year is a great way to start the spring season!"
