MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - With Millersville trailing Assumption by a run in the bottom of the ninth,
Cole Houser hit a solo home run, and
Mark McNelly walked off with a three-run blast, completing an 8-5, come-from-behind win for the sixth-ranked Marauders.
McNelly has quickly shown a flair for the dramatic as he has hit two game-winning, ninth-inning home runs in just eight at bats as a Marauder. He finished Friday's game with five RBIs, two hits and a walk. Houser scored three times with a home run and a triple.
Sam Morris went 4 for 5, and
Matthew Williams went 3 for 5 with three runs scored.
All four of Millersville ninth-inning runs were scored with two outs. The Marauders led 4-3 entering the ninth, but Assumption took the lead on a two-out, two-run single from Lorenzo Lombardo. The Greyhounds sent Corey Chiappone (0-1) out for a fourth inning of work, and he retired the first two Marauders he faced. Houser's first home run of the season gave the Marauders life, and Williams and Morris delivered back-to-back singles, setting the stage for McNelly's home run.
