Marauders out-slug Shepherd for game one win

The 33 runs scored were the most in a game involving Millersville since April 19, 2016 and the most in a PSAC East game in Millersville history. The Marauders totaled 16 hits and 14 walks with five hitters turning in multi-hit performances. Jimmy Losh and Thomas Caufield both hit home runs and drove in four runs. Chase Simmons drew four walks and reached base five times while driving in two and scoring three runs.
Shepherd was previously 16-0 when scoring nine or more runs, but Millersville scored more runs than any other Shepherd opponent this season and scored 20 for the third time.
It took Millersville just four at bats to build a 2-0 run lead as Losh and Caufield both hit solo homers in the first inning. Shepherd, however, had success against Millersville starter Ben Wilchacky, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. The Rams led 7-4 before Millersville scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth. Shepherd, however, rallied to tie the game at 10-10, scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Millersville's bats continued to churn out hits and runs, though. Keegan Soltis broke the tie with an RBI double in the seventh, and Simmons, Losh, Soltis, Caufield and Cole Houser piled on in the eighth as Millersville scored seven in the inning. Millersville forced Shepherd to use seven different pitchers while Colby Gromlich and Nate Young battled through the middle and late innings. Gromlich (3-0) surrendered three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Young worked 3 1/3 and struck out seven. He pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings.
