Marauders top Bloomsburg to advance to PSAC Semifinals

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team is headed to the PSAC Semifinals for the third year in a row. The Marauders punched their ticket with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Bloomsburg Thursday at McComsey Tennis Courts.

Millersville (9-9) was forced to adjust its lineup with five of the six players moving up a spot in the lineup, and Chloe Abramowitz and Sophie Lanius teamed together in doubles for just the second time all season and scored the clinching point in doubles that proved crucial to the Marauders' win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Noelle Htwar and Hui Jen Soo paired at No. 1 doubles and scored a 6-4 win to give Millersville an early edge. With Bloomsburg winning the No. 3 match, the Marauders needed a win from Abramowitz and Lanius, and they delivered with a 6-2 triumph over Sarah Capoferri and Jen McDonald. The win improved Abramowitz to 10-1 in doubles since March 24, and it was the first time that Lanius had played above No. 3 doubles in her career.
• Abramowitz and Lanius continued their stellar play in singles, scoring wins at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Abramowitz is now 3-0 playing at No. 3 singles while Lanius won her second match ever in the No. 4 slot. Soo moved up to the No. 2 flight and came through with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

• On advancing to the PSAC Semifinals for the third season in a row: "We are the only PSAC school to have both the men's and women's teams in the semis, and we were the only program to do it last year and the year before."
• On the team making adjustments: "This one was a huge team effort. I can't say enough about Noelle and Jen in doubles. They were so tough when it mattered most. Sophie and Jen stepped up big in singles, methodically winning tough matches in straight sets. Very impressive. (Kaitlyn Then) and Sarah battled hard and kept fighting to the very end."
• On the play of Abramowitz: "The star of the show was Chloe Abramowitz. She shies away from the limelight but she was a monster in both singles and doubles. In these matches, you never know when someone will just stand up, take over and exert their will. Today, that was Chloe. I could not be more proud of her."

• Millersville draws PSAC West No. 1 seed Indiana (Pa.) in the semifinals. IUP is ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region. The teams play Saturday in Bloomsburg at 10 a.m.
