MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville women's tennis team picked up its first dual win of the season, topping Chestnut Hill 5-2 on Thursday at McComsey Tennis Courts.
The Marauders (1-5) first win came over a Chesnut Hill team that had already earned seven wins on the season (7-9).
HOW IT HAPPENS
• The Marauders won three of the five contested singles matches and were also aided by a forfeit at No. 6 singles and a No. 3 doubles. But Millersville did plenty without those to pick up the victory. In doubles, Noelle Htwar and Hui Jen Soo won by a 6-2 score in the No. 1 flight.
• Htwar continued her winning ways at No. 1 singles, edging Alison Isaac, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Maria Ojeda (No. 2) won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and Chloe Abramowitz did the same, 6-2, 6-3.
REACTION FROM COACH MATT HELSEL
• "Great win today. They really had to fight for it, and after a rough start to the season, it's good to know that we can still gut out a win. Noelle and Jen really stepped up in doubles. Everyone played tough in singles, and that's the type of effort we've come to expect. I knew we weren't as bad as our record might indicate. We have plenty of tough competitors."
