Millersville looks to continue hot start against Jefferson

ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Softball team has won five-in-a-row since dropping its season-opener to Goldey-Beacom in early February. All of the Marauders’ five wins this season have come in five innings, four by mercy rule and one due to darkness. 
  • This is the Marauders’ best start since 2018 when they began 7-1 and made their most recent PSAC Tournament appearance. 
  • Head coach Jen Probst and her team will look to make it seven-straight wins starting at 2 p.m. at Seaber Softball Stadium on Wednesday, March 1. 

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders played lights out in their two wins at home this season against Holy Family. Taking down the Tigers by a score of 8-0 in game one and 11-3 in game two. 
  • Millersville is batting a combined .366 so far and ties for a conference lead in home runs with nine. In addition, ‘Ville has hit 15 doubles, walked 19 times and drove in 51 RBI’s in six games. 
  • Gabi Turner leads the squad in both home runs (3) and RBI’s (8) while batting .438. 
  • Lacey O’Donnell is 7-for-8 in 12 at-bats this season and holds a .667 average, which ranks second in NCAA Division II. 
  • Millersville has totaled 53 runs, 56 hits and 51 RBI’s in six games.
  • The Marauder pitching staff has been nearly untouchable through six games. Alex Schaefer holds a .51 ERA, giving up just seven hits in 13.2 innings pitched and one run while striking out 18 batters. Morgan Crutcher has been solid as well, holding a 2.33 ERA with only five earned runs and 11 strikeouts.

SCOUTING THE RAMS

  • Jefferson finished the 2022 season with a 12-24 overall record, failing to qualify for the CACC Tournament. They’ll look to start 2023 on a high note against the Marauders. 
  • The Rams return their top batter from a year ago, Sam Gomez. Gomez batted .411, with six doubles and 19 RBI’s. She also led the team in home runs with three. 
  • Jefferson also returned its top pitcher from a year ago, Gianna DeLorenzo. DeLorenzo finished with a 10-12 record, held a 2.17 ERA and struck out 90 opposing batters. 

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville vs. Chestnut Hill - The Marauders, along with a combined no-hitter in game one, outscored the Griffins 28-0 in two five-inning victories to extend their winning streak to five. Millersville won the first game 17-0 and recorded a combined no-hitter before taking care of business in game two with an 11-0 victory.
