MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's indoor track and field team is set for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. this weekend, Feb. 25-26. The Marauders will look to build on what they were able to accomplish in 2022, finishing a program-best fourth place with 63 total points. Millersville is bringing a program-high 19 student-athletes to the championships this weekend.
"We definitely focus more on the outdoor season at Millersville, so we're still in the process of developing at this point in the season, but we did have some really nice performances the last couple weeks," said head coach Andy Young. "You can see the athletes really starting to click and shake off rust."
Darian Hauf and Hannah Woelfling highlight the group of Marauders as each hit NCAA qualifying marks in their respective events. Hauf recorded a season-best height of 12-1 ½ in the pole vault at the DeSchriver Invitational on Feb. 5 -- that height ranks first in the PSAC and No. 34 in NCAA Division II. Hauf was crowned pole vault champion during the 2022 PSAC Championships at Edinboro after setting a program-record height of 12-9 ½. She'll look to repeat as champion and claim her third-overall individual PSAC title as a sophomore.
"She's really working through some things right now, but has had some really, really good attempts the past few weeks," said Young. "She didn't quite the jumps that she was hoping to, but it's exciting to see that she's getting where she needs to get."
Woelfling hit national qualifying distances in both the shot put and weight throw. The senior recorded a season-best distance of 58-2 ½ in the weight throw at the Big Apple Invitational on Feb. 11, which ranks first in the PSAC and No. 28 in division II. She'll look to repeat as champion in the event this year as she was crowned a year ago after hitting a mark of 59-8 ¼.
Woelfling recently hit a national qualifying mark in the shot put on Feb. 19 at the Princeton Indoor Invitational. The Lebanon native recorded a third-best conference distance of 45-1. She finished fourth in the shot put a year ago after recording a distance of 44-9 ½.
"In the throws we typically are very strong, and that hasn't changed this year," said Young. "Hannah Woelfling has really been coming on strong the last few weeks. She has NCAA marks in both the weight throw and shot put. She's number one in the weight throw by quite a bit I believe and in the shot she's third, but she's really coming on at the right time. Excited to see what she does.
Hauf and Woelfling will be joined by a number of Marauder field athletes looking to turn heads this weekend. Maddy Downs joins Woelfling in both the shot put (40-3 ¼) and weight throw (49-2 ½) after recording top-10 distanced in both events this season. Following Downs in the shot put are a pair of freshman, Sarah Hessler (39-1) and Seya Trujillo (39-8 ¾), while Cassie Sharow qualified for the weight throw with a season-best distance of 46-8 ¾.
In the pole vault, Megan Malecki has had a strong season and ranks No. 6 in the PSAC with a season-best height of 11-6 ¼. Madison Stebila rounds out the Marauder field athletes as she will be competing in both the high jump (5-1) and pentathlon (2392 points). Stebila holds the eighth-best mark in the PSAC as a high jumper.
In addition to the field events, 12 track athletes are set to compete this weekend. De'Asia Holloman ranks fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20. Aurora Conrad qualified for both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash and holds top-10 conference times in both. Emma Elwell joins Conrad in both events, while Arianna Kouakou will compete in the 200-meter dash.
Three Marauders will compete in the 400-meter dash and the 800 meters. Aubrey Syndor (59.10) leads the group of 400-meter runners with the PSAC's eighth-best time, followed by Mia Carson (1:00.10) and Shelby Derkosh (1:00.43). Abbey Sullivan ranks eighth in the PSAC in the 800 with a time of 2:21.86; she's followed by Lindsay Solderitch (2:22.20) and Cora Heilman (2:23.50).
Morgan Janiuk is the lone Marauder to qualify for the mile with a time of 5:18.42. The 'Ville 4x400 relay team consists of Heilman, Derkosh, Solderitch and Claire Coons.
Action will begin on Saturday, Feb. 25 with live results available here.
