Long ball, Wilchacky get Marauders a sweep

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville baseball made its 2022 Cooper Park debut Saturday and slammed its way to 8-6 and 7-0 wins over visiting Goldey-Beacom. Millersville hit five home runs in the doubleheader, and Ben Wilchacky tossed a complete game one-hitter in game two.
Millersville's win in the opener was the 200th at home since the opening of Cooper Park in 2007. Luke Trainer hit a home run in both games and went 4-for-4 in game two. Thomas Caufield mashed a grand slam in game one and finished the day with eight RBIs, six of which came in the opener. Jimmy Kirk and Cole Houser both hit their first career home runs.
The sweep improved Millersville to 7-4 while Goldey-Beacom's record slid to 3-11.
GAME ONE
• With the game tied 1-1 in the third, Millersville drew three walks to load the bases for Caufield. Caufield cleared the bases with his second home run of the season for a 5-1 Millersville lead. That lead would not last long, though, as Goldey-Beacom responded with four runs in the top of the fourth. Johnny Kampes' three-run double in the top of the fourth tied the game.
• Caufield came through in the clutch again, though. In the bottom of the fifth, he singled home Tyler Wright and Jimmy Losh, giving Millersville a lead it would not relinquish.
• Goldey-Beacom threatened in sixth against Christian Wingard (1-0). Wingard issued four walks in the inning, bringing the Lightning within a run. But with two outs and the bases loaded, Wingard got the strikeout he needed. Jimmy Kirk led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot, and Sam Morris entered in the seven and picked up a save with a pair of strikeouts.
• Wingard struck out five and allowed one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Morris' save was the first of his career. He also drew two walks and scored a run.
GAME TWO
• Ben Wilchacky won his fourth-straight start and did it in dominating fashion. He struck out six, issued just one walk and held a no-hitter through 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five of the last eight hitters.
• Trainer's four-hit outing led the Millersville lineup, and Bren Taylor went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. Houser's home run put Millersville up 2-0 in the second, and Taylor and Trainer added RBI singles in the inning to give Millersville a 4-0 edge. Trainer's two-run blast in the fourth extended the lead, and Caufield plated his second run of the game with a single in the sixth.

• Millersville travels to Goldey-Beacom Sunday to complete its four-game series with the Lightning.
