Marauders finish off four-game sweep of Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. - Millersville baseball polished off a four-game series sweep of Goldey-Beacom Sunday, scoring wins of 6-2 and 13-4 to improve to 9-4 on the season.
After pulling away late in game one, the Marauders piled up 11 hits and seven walks, hitting three home runs in game two. The lineup's performance included three home runs, one of which was a pinch hit grand slam from Taso Kovack. Chase Simmons finished the day with five hits.
Millersville totaled double-digit hits in each of the final three games of the series and hit a total of nine home runs. Millersville also shut out the Lightning in two of the four games.
GAME ONE
• Luke Trainer went 3-for-4 and his first of two RBIs in the game broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. He added another with a single as part of a three-run Millersville fifth inning that included a two-run double from Jimmy Losh.
• While Goldey-Beacom pulled within two runs on a homer from Maxwell Awtry in the fifth, Simmons, who went 3-for-3 in the game, smacked a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to help Millersville pull away.
• Matt Shamany struck out five in 2 1/3 scoreless innings as the starter. Nate Young (2-0) was the bridge to Kris Pirozzi who struck out five without a walk in 3 2/3 innings.
GAME TWO
• Colby Gromlich (1-1) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out four in notching his first career win.
• Eleven different Marauders recorded at least one hit. Thomas Caufield got the Marauders rolling in the third inning with a solo homer. The floodgates opened in an eight-run fourth inning that included a three-run blast from John Seibert. Kovack's grand slam--the first home run and second hit of his career--capped a six-run fifth inning.
• Bren Taylor drove in two runs and scored twice. Caufield reached base three times with a homer and two walks. Seibert went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Simmons went 2-for-3 with two runs.

• Millersville hosts a doubleheader with Clarion on Wednesday, March 9. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
