
Mercyhurst tops Millersville in PSAC opener

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team opened PSAC action on the road Saturday, falling to Mercyhurst by a 5-2 score.
The Marauders won the doubles point and also got a win from No. 1 Carlos Martinez-Lucas, but fell to 3-4 (0-1 PSAC) with their third-straight loss. Mercyhurst (5-7, 2-0 PSAC) won its third in a row.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Martinez-Lucas and Frank Yanni won their 10th match in a row, knocking of David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic, who were ranked No. 36 in Division II to start the week. The Millersville No. 1 team won 6-4, avenging a loss to the Mercyhurst pair in the 2021 ITA Regional Tournament. Martinez-Lucas and Yanni have not lost since that defeat in September.
• Millersville's No. 3 team of Zach Pernia and Santiago Ramos clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph.
• The Lakers won the dual on the strength of three-set victories in at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Millersville's lone point came from Martinez-Lucas, who rallied from a first set loss to defeat Akinpetide, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Martinez-Lucas has won four of his last five matches to improve to 10-5 on the season.
