HOW IT HAPPENED
• In game one, Shepherd struck early and often, putting up six runs in the first two innings on four hits and taking advantage of two Millersville errors. The Marauders put up three runs of their own in the second and a fourth in the fifth to pull within two. Shepherd answered back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Gabi Turner,
Faith Willenbrock,
Hunter Little and Savannah Kolenda all scored runs for Millersville. Little drew three walks.
• Freshman starting pitcher
Morgan Crutcher stymied the hot-hitting Rams in game two and kept the Marauders close. Shepherd scored two on three singles in the second, but that would be all the runs they would score until the game-winner in the seventh. Millersville mustered just four baserunners over the first five innings, but in the sixth, Willenbrock followed a Little single with a two-run home run to tie the game. Crutcher stranded a runner in the bottom of the sixth to set up the final inning. The Marauder bats went down in order in the top half, and with one out in the bottom of the inning, Shepherd leadoff hitter Nicole Purtell smacked a double. Crutcher got Leann Brown to fly out, but Hannah Burger delivered a single for the game-winning run.
• Willenbrock went 2-for-3 while Little reached base twice with a walk and single. Crutcher struck out three and scattered eight hits.
NOTES
• Willenbrock's home run was her 14th of the season, which matches Millersville's single-season record that she set as a freshman in 2018. She's recorded at least one hit in 20 of 24 games this season.
