Women's tennis improves to 2-0 in division play before dropping non-conference match

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Millersville women's tennis made it two for two in PSAC East matches with victories Saturday before falling to the region's No. 7-ranked team, Salem, in a non-conference dual Saturday night.
Millersville topped Bloomsburg 6-1 to improve and is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East. The match was Bloomsburg's first of the season. Salem ran its record to 6-1 with a 4-2 win over the Marauders.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville's perfect start to PSAC East play included a sweep of doubles matches against Bloomsburg. Julie Wallace and Noelle Htwar scored a 6-4 win the No. 1 spot. Kelsey Heckert and Jasmine Morris also won 6-4, and Maria Ojeda and Lauren Weaver paired for a convincing 6-1 victory. Marauders took singles matches from No. 2 to No. 6, and four of them came by straight sets. Wallace rolled past Giovanna Bonito 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Htwar earned a 6-1, 6-4 win. Ojeda outlasted her opponent in the No. 4 spot by a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7-5) score. Heckert swept her match at No. 5 singles, and Weaver won 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.
• Against Salem, Millersville's two points came from forfeits accepted by Heckert and Weaver in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Maria Ojeda, playing at No. 4 singles, held a 6-4, 5-2 lead when the matched was halted and unfinished. Salem won two of the three doubles matches contested, although Heckert and Morris pushed Irna Rusyn and Kristina Vuksanovic to a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).
NOTES
• The win over Bloomsburg was Millersville's first since 2016.
• The team of Wallace and Htwar improved to 3-1 in No. 1 doubles.
