LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Junior catcher Luke Trainer has earned both the NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week and the PSAC East Baseball Athlete of the Week honors after a weekend in which he went 8-for-8 at the plate in the final two games. Included in that performance was a 5-for-5 day in game two against Le Moyne College on Saturday, with Luke launching two home runs (the sixth and seventh of his career) and adding two doubles to his season total. The Marauders played five games last week, with Trainer batting .600, scoring six runs, and knocking in nine RBIs.
As the NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, he will be placed on the national ballot. This week's winner is announced on Thursday, March 12.
Trainer's batting average has risen to .415 (second on the team to Jimmy Losh's .492) and he leads Millersville with 22 total RBIs. This is the first time in his career that Luke has won either weekly award and the second time this season for the Marauders (Alex Mykut was previously named NCBWA Atlantic Region and PSAC East Pitcher of the Week.)
For the season, Trainer has 22 total hits, 16 runs scored, and an on-base percentage of .476. He also leads the Marauders in slugging percentage with a .698 total.
Trainer shared this week's PSAC East Baseball Athlete of the Week honor with CJ Lopez of East Stroudsburg.
Later this week the Marauders begin PSAC play with a series against Lock Haven University, with a single nine-inning game at Lock Haven scheduled for Friday, March 13 beginning at 2 p.m. The series then shifts to Cooper Park in Millersville for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 beginning at 1 p.m. that will feature one seven-inning game and one nine-inning game.
