CHAMPIONSHIP OUTLOOK
• Millersville is set to send 11 athletes for 15 individual entries at this weekend's PSAC Indoor Championships, held at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa. Millersville is coming off a best-ever fifth-place finish, but that was charged by first-place finishes from Sunflower Greene (shot put and weight throw) and Clara Forney (400-meter dash). While both athletes graduated in 2019, Millersville has a new era of athletes ready to etch their names in history as PSAC champions. Aliyah Striver and Madison Martin enter the championships as favorites in the throwing events while Destinee Holloman is among the top runners in the 60-meter dash, and D'Asia Holloman ranks third in the 60-meter hurdles.
• The reigning champion is Kutztown, which ended a run of either Shippensburg or Slippery Rock winning each championship dating back to 2007. Kutztown now owns four championships and Lock Haven won the first two in 2002 and 2003.
MILLERSVILLE AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
• Millersville scored 60 points last season, which was the second-highest total in program history and the most since 2008. The Marauders have finished in the top-half of the field in five of the last six seasons and has scored at least 50 points in back-to-back championships for the first time ever.
• From the first championship in 2002 to 2015, only two Marauders had won individual PSAC Indoor Championships. Beth Lord won the weight throw in 2002. Priscilla Jennings took first in the 800-meter run in 2007 and the mile in 2008. But since 2016, a Marauder has stood atop the podium six times. Kiara Allen won the 2016 60-meter dash, and Greene won back-to-back titles in the shot put and weight throw. Forney won the 400 in 2019 as well, giving Millersville two different champions in the same season for the first time.
• Millersville athletes have produced five top-three (All-PSAC) finishes in back-to-back seasons for the first time. Prior to 2018, Millersville's most top-three finishes was three.
EVENT BREAKDOWN
• For the third year in a row, a Marauder is the prohibitive favorite in the shot put and weight throw. Greene dominated the indoor championships for two seasons, but now it is Strivers' turn in the shot put. In her last competition, Striver hit 49-2 1/4--a mark that is No. 1 in the PSAC by more than three full feet. Striver placed fourth at last season's indoor championships and continued to make strides in the spring, placing third at the outdoor championships. Millersville could pick up some additional points in the shot put from Martin, who currently ranks seventh with a season-best mark of 40-10 1/4.
• Martin, a senior, has already notched three All-PSAC performances and has scored in nine PSAC championship events. The holder of the second-best weight throw in program history, Martin is the No. 1 seed by 12 inches. She hit 56-6 1/2 in the season-opening meet and has topped 56 feet in three of the last four meets. No other athlete in the PSAC has hit 56-0 this season. East Stroudsburg's Me'Saj Closs' best of 55-6 1/2 came on Feb. 7. Striver could notch an All-PSAC finish in the weight throw as well as she enters as the No. 3 seed. Stephanie Garner's career-best of 50-3 1/2, set at the Feb. 14 Fastrack National, has her seeded seventh. Garner has qualified in the event twice before, finishing ninth in 2019 and 11th in 2018. Freshman Hannah Woefling is also qualified to compete.
• Cal U athletes Divonne Franklin (7.65) and Alicia Collier (7.71) hold two of the top three times in the 60-meter dash, and Destinee Holloman is tied with Shippensburg's Leah Graybill for the No. 4 seed at 7.73. Holloman placed eighth in the event last season and also scored in the long jump and 100-meter dash at the outdoor championships. A total of nine PSAC runners have run under 7.80 this season.
• Holloman is also qualified in the long jump. She is seeded 12th in the long jump with a season-best of 17-7. This is her third time competing in the long jump at the indoor championships having finished 16th in 2018 and 14th in 2019.
• Emonie Reviere is one of Millersville's returning All-PSAC performers. After finishing third in the 200-meter dash last season, Reviere is seeded 17th with a time of 26.26. She posted a 25.65 at least season's championships and went on to finish fourth in the 200 at the outdoor championships. She has run the 200 just three times this season.
• Freshman D'Asia Holloman, Destinee's sister, is seeded third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.12 that she ran on Jan. 31 at Bucknell. That time is the third-fastest in program history. She is looking to be the first Marauder freshman since 2012 to finish in the top-three at the indoor championships. D'Asia is also ranked 15th in the 60 with a time of 7.97. Fellow freshman Kari Cambria also qualified in the 60 hurdles. She is seeded 18th with a time of 9.65.
• Katy Alberici has qualified for the indoor championships in the triple jump for the second time in her career. Her season-best of 35-6 1/2 is seeded 18th. Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno is set to compete in an individual event at the indoor championships for the first time. She is seeded 16th in the 800-meter run (2:22.73). Less than three seconds separates spots six through 17. Rijo-Cedeno placed ninth in the race at last season's outdoor championships. She also qualified in the 5,000-meter run. Kaitlin Moyer was a surprise for the Marauders at the 2019 outdoor championships when she finished eighth in the heptathlon. She is now set to compete at the indoor championships for the first time in the pentathlon. Her only full pentathlon of the season was on Feb. 1 at Bucknell and she totaled 2,760 points.
• Millersville could be in a position to score points in two relay races. The Marauders' 4x400-meter relay team is ranked eighth (4:06.94), and the distance medley relay team is also eighth (13:34.68).
