MANSFIELD, Pa. – Facing a two-goal deficit in the first quarter, Millersville answered back with a Kyra Brakefield deflection but struggled to find the equalizer in the second half. Mansfield added a security goal in the fourth quarter to take the game 3-1.
The loss marks Millersville's fifth of the season, all in conference play. The Marauders' record now sits at 11-5 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC. Mansfield also holds a record of 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The Marauders managed to fire off only one shot before the Mountaineers got on the board just three minutes and 19 seconds into the game. Mansfield earned the first penalty corner of the game and the Millersville defense stepped up to block the initial shot, but it was the rebound that broke through the defense and past Autumn Peters for the goal.
• Over the next seven minutes Millersville fought to get off a second shot on goal but quickly found themselves back in their own circle for Mansfield's second corner of the game. The Marauder defense once again blocked the initial shot attempt and the Mountaineers came up with the rebound, passing it right across the goal and into the back of the cage for the 2-0 lead.
• Millersville turned up the heat at the beginning of the second quarter, dominating possession with three corners and three shots in the first five minutes. The third time was the charm for the Marauders as Brakefield inserted the ball to Jordan Goddard at the top of the circle on the third corner. Goddard fired a rocket to the cage where Brakefield was waiting by the right post deflecting the ball in for Millersville's first and only goal of the game.
• Despite the three goals Mansfield scored, it was a quiet day in the cage for Autumn Peters. Of the eight shots fired into the circle by the Mountaineers, only four were on cage.

• "We scored a nice goal, but being down by two in the first quarter was tough. I thought we had good pressure and picked it up through the third and fourth quarters, but just couldn't find the equalizer."
• "We are learning and playing good hockey, but it is up to us in the front and the back to keep a high standard and be consistent. We just lacked that today and this is not the time of year we can lack in our standards."
